Alexander von Muralt

Laureate 1946: Alexander von Muralt

“[…] for his work: ‘Signal transmission in nerves’. The changes that occur inside nerves during saltatory conduction as demonstrated in Alexander von Muralt’s research are of paramount importance to normal and pathological processes in the human body. He proved that not only physical processes but also substance elements form the basis of transmission in the nervous system. His research therefore clarified one of the most fascinating problems of life processes, and therefore brought significant benefits to the medical profession.”
