Laureate 1976: Theodor K. Brunner

“[…] for their exceptional work in the field of cellular immunology and the potential application of their findings to cancer and transplantation research.”

B. und C. interpretierten tumorale Erkrankungen als Folge eines Defektes des Immunsystems. Ihr Untersuchungsschwerpunkt war der körpereigene Abwehrmechanismus in Form der zellulären Cytotoxität: T-Lymphozyten (‘Killerzellen’) attackieren Fremdzellen, die in den Organismus eindringen oder sich in ihm entwickeln. Die Gutachter beurteilten die Analyse dieser Interaktion als grundlegenden Beitrag zur Erforschung der zellulären Organisation im Allgemeinen und zur medizinischen Immunologie im Besonderen.
